Kilifi Municipality to get a new Fire Station

For a long time, Kilifi has always been caught on the hop when it comes to responding to emergencies. However, efforts to timely respond to fire disasters and emergencies in Kilifi are expected to improve as a result of construction of the modern and sustainable fire station in Kilifi Town.

The construction of this new firefighting infrastructure and facilities comes at the right moment when the Municipality is in urgent need of a new fire station to respond to the regular fire and road accident emergencies within the rapidly growing population of Kilifi Municipality. The fire station will serve approximately 160,000 residents within the boundaries of Kilifi.

According to the Municipality Board Chairman Mr. Charles Ngala the current makeshift fire station is in poor condition thereby putting the public at risk if any large fire accidents or any serious emergencies arise.

“The current fire station is in poor state and poses a huge risk to the residents of the Municipality in case any serious emergencies occur. After assuming office our main aim was to completely revamp the response to fire and emergencies in the Municipality. We are constructing a new and modern fire station that will effectively respond to any emergencies within our Municipality.” says Ngala.

Already, construction of the fire station which is located adjacent to National Cereals Board premises along Kwa Mwango – Kiwandani road in Kilifi has already commenced. The project is expected to be complete in 12 months’ time.

The new fire station which is being constructed with financial aid from the World Bank will consist of a whole fire unit with modern firefighting and emergency infrastructure. To address the challenges of shortage of water supply to the fire engines, a borehole will be drilled and this will go a long way in enhancing preparedness to emergencies. To promptly respond to emergencies, the fire station will also have a 24-hour emergency call center.
