Empowering Fishers: 58 Receive Coxswain III Certification
Congratulations to the 58 fishermen who have successfully completed the Coxswain III certification programme at the Kisumu Maritime Centre!
As beneficiaries of the KEMFSED project, these skilled fishermen have also received a modern offshore fishing boat, equipping them with the tools and knowledge necessary to enhance efficiency and safety in the fishing sector.
The Kilifi County Government has played a crucial role in supporting this initiative by promoting skills development, encouraging sustainable fishing practices, and fostering economic growth within the county’s fishing community.
On May 31, 2024, thirty-three fishers from Kilifi County received their Coxswain III certificates after completing a six-week training programme funded by the KEMFSED project.
Since 2023, 148 fishers from Kilifi County have undergone this training, which takes place after common interest groups receive offshore fishing boats—promoting the high-return fishing value chain.
Present at the graduation ceremony were Christine Pekeshe, Chief Officer of Blue Economy; Mwangi Gachuru, County Director of Fisheries; Samuel Kazungu, Administrator; Lucy Kapombe, Kilifi County KEMFSED Project Coordinator; and other county officers.
