The Health Department yesterday kicked off a week-long Eye Camp targeting 3,000 patients from Kaloleni, Rabai and Ganze Sub counties at St Luke’s hospital and Madzimbani, Shangia, Viragoni, Bamba dispensaries.
400 cataract surgeries will be performed at St. Luke’s hospital by the Health Department’s Eye Services Unit (Kilifi county Government) and the Kwale Eye Centre in partnership with the Fred Hollows Foundation.
Reading glasses were issued to patients, and medications administered to treat common conditions such as eye infections.
Screening will be conducted at 23 health facilities as follows;
Tuesday, Dec 6th – Jibana SC hospital and Maryango, Midoina and Mtsara dispensaries.
Wednesday, Dec 7th – Bwagamoyo, Mitsajeni, Lenga and Kambe dispensaries
Thursday, Dec 8th – Kokotoni, Kombeni, Makanzani and Chibarani dispensaries.
Friday, Dec 9th – Jaribuni, Vitengeni, Ganze and St. Luke’s hospital.
Saturday, Dec 10th – Chalani, Mgamboni, Kinarani and St. Luke’s hospital.
The camp has been funded by the Australian Government through the The Fred Hollows Foundation.
